Research and Publications

Behind the practice of And I Sang! is an active research programme — peer-reviewed, internationally presented, and grounded in fieldwork with the young singers whose experiences inspired the work in the first place.

This page offers a complete record of the research, publications, and presentations that have shaped — and continue to shape — the practice. For parents, teachers, and individuals exploring And I Sang! as a service, it stands as a transparent record of the evidence base behind the work. For researchers, educators, and collaborators, it stands as an invitation. Please get in touch.

Research focus

My doctoral research investigates how social relationships shape music performance anxiety in pre-adolescent voice students. Drawing on Ailbhe Kenny's Communities of Musical Practice framework, the study uses a draw-and-tell methodology with child participants across multiple observation points, examining how peer relationships, environmental design, and student agency shape children's experiences of anxiety in group voice learning.

Adjacent research interests include voice pedagogy and the child voice; communities of practice in music learning; the social and emotional dimensions of musical participation; peer-supported and group learning models; arts-based and child-centred research methodologies; and the broader policy and access landscape of music education in Australia.
